Termite damaged knotty alder door jamb, replaced with custom new jamb

Termite damaged knotty alder door jamb replaced with custom new jamb.

My client asked me to replace a door jamb that had bad termite damage with a new jamb.
He asked me to save the door if possible and refinish the door.
As you see, the door has a radius top and so is the jamb.
The jamb has to follow the curve of the door perfectly.

As I started to remove the old jamb I saw how much the termites had deteriorated the jamb behind the surface. Luckily they ate only the jamb and left the studs untouched.
After removing the old jamb I took the door, (32″ by 96″) with me to my shop.

To create the curved jamb around the door I used three sixteen of an inch material that is easy to bend.
It took four layers, glue and many clamps.
I stained the jamb; refinished the door and hung the door in the jamb with new threshold and weather stripping.
I hung this pre-hung unit in place and installed the old hardware.

One of the problems adobe style houses have, they are built with flat roofs with no over hang like peak roofs have.

The door is totally exposed to the weather and that would hurt the woodwork.

If you have an adobe style home, the woodwork around the house needs to be watched and some  maintenance is required such as caulking and refinishing more often.
