Removing a beautiful mahogany door and a side light and installing a new fiberglass door with two side lights

A new client of mine invested a lot in the front yard of the house and wanted to to replace the front door with a new one to go with house.
I would say that the house style is ‘Ranch’
When a came to the house to visit with the owners I saw a beautiful mahogany door and one side light.
They told me that they found what they wonted to replace it with at Home Depot.

They found a fiberglass door with two sidelights.
What was left for me to do was, take the measurements and bring it to Home Depot and submit it to the sells person, to make sure it will fit in the house existing opening.
Three weeks later Home Depot delivered the new pre-hung unit, a door and two sidelights to their house.

I was very surprised to to see the new door that looked to me like a downgrade compare with the existing mahogany door.
Oh well I thought, this is what they like and was getting ready to do my job.
When I was all done with installation, I stepped back and I thought, This looks much better than the old door, this new door and sidelights go very well with the house style indeed.

I took some pictures of before and after on the day of installation.
I came back few days after to take more pictures after the paint job was done.
The door was painted very dark a metal wreath was attached to it.

  1. our door doesn't have windows and it's my biggest pet peeve! great before & after!

  2. It was a beautiful transformation. Though the original door was beautiful on its own, the darker door with 2 side lights was a great fit for the brick and style of the house.

  3. The dark wreath accents it nicely. The whole job came out great.

  4. The before and after shot makes it so clear how great your work was. And a front door is so important! Thanks for posting

  5. Ooh, I love it! I actually like both doors. We need a new one so bad so maybe you'll swing by my place one day and hook me up 😉

  6. That is a beautiful door. It sure looks a lot nicer than mine!

  7. I also love the old mahogany door. I understand, though, why people might prefer the new door with sidelights; it does look great!

  8. I would love a door with sidelights but our door frame is not large enough to fit one. What a great transformation.

  11. This is making me wish, I purchase a house instead of an apartment. I love these doors. The door is the first thing a person sees and it should reflect the personality of the household. Great doors and color.

  13. I personally prefer a wooden door but I like the side windows in the fiberglass design.

  14. OMG! That's really nice! We recently had our doors done, all three of them and it was really really pricey. But I feel happy seeing how nicely it was done and even got compliments. 🙂 That job just looks awesome! I really like it!!! 🙂

  15. I'm not sure why and how anyone could get rid of a beautiful door like that, but everyone truly has their own taste. You did a fantastic job, nonetheless! I love the color.

  19. Such an interesting choice…I'm sure the mahogany door was worth so much more than the fiberglass, but I do like the aesthetics of the new one!

  20. I think it looks very nice. I would have loved to have seen pictures of the work in progress. As a contractor's wife, I would love to know what happened to the original mahogany door. I love the stuff my husband brings home that the original owner didn't want anymore.
