Building a custom wall unit in a bedroom

My clients from Fountain Hills in Arizona found me on Google search
They asked me to build a wall unit with cabinets in a the bottom.
It is basically book shelves and bottom cabinet.
The overall measurements are, eleven feet long, eight feet high and ten inches deep.
They wanted the doors to look like bead-board
Bead board comes in quarter of an inch thick.
The doors have to be three quarter of an inch thick.
I told my clients that I will get a three quarter of an inch birch plywood and make verticals grooves and I will install trim around the the plywood edges.

Clients asked me to built it with no back so the blue wall behind will show.

I made a door sample and a nice drawings and I went back to my clients house.
They accepted my proposal and I started this project.
I used birch plywood for the risers and solid polar for the shelving and for the trim.
I used invisible European hinges.

It came out just beautiful. I kept a two inches reveal all around the window.
The paint job was done by another contractor.
My clients are very happy with results and so am I.

  1. I love the idea! I will share this to a friend.

  2. I absolutely love this, there are never enough bookshelves in our house! I could really use this.

  3. Oh man! I love that! We could totally collaborate if you were close. I have three wall units that my carpenter is working on before Christmas. Great job!

  4. That is a beautiful bookcase. I absolutely love being able to see the blue wall – instead of using a back.

  5. That's a really good looking bookcase. I'd love that, but with a seat in the window instead of cupboards.
