Interior sliding French door with one fixed panel

Sliding French door with one fixed panel    This home had a nice size room with no doors, just an open square archway. My client wonted to turn the room into an office with dual pane glass French doors. This system works much better than installing double doors, that would require a lot of space. My solution was, one fixed panel and one sliding door. The existing opening was too large for standard doors. I reduced the opening with two by four studs and drywall.   The sliding door is hung on a Johnson track that is attached to the header....

Double cedar gates

Designing, creating and installing double cedar gates by Shapira Builders    The homeowners in Scottsdale AZ, asked me to replace double knotty alder doors that were falling apart.     This home have a  surroundings block wall with stucco and an arch way for double gates. This home was custom built for these homeowners. For some reason, they used two knotty alder doors as gates, that are exposed to the weather. That was a bad choice of wood specie. Cedar has a natural resin like redwood and cypress that acts as a protection from any organic...

Making rolling flower beds

The wheels I found in garage sales, junk stores, antique stores and so on. The lumber can be anything like scrap wood. I treat the lumber with wood preservative and then I stain it. It doesn’t need any finish coat like polyurethane. The rails or the bars are made from one continuous 2×4 lumber, attached to the wheel axle back to the handle part. The flower bed is a box screwed to the railings. All these rolling flower beds are designed and built by Shapira Builders                   Shapira Builders always gives free estimates...

Refinishing Wood door

Refinishing Wood door  My latest customer found Shapira Builders on Yelp. My client invited me to look at his front door, he wanted me to refinish it. I found a door that hes been long time neglected. To maintain the health of wood stained door I recommend, once a year to apply some kind of protective oil. I do not recommend polyurethane. Polyurethane drys and cracks. I use oils such as, Linseed oil or Tung oil. As I looked at the door, I picked out the darkest spot as a reference to the shade of stain I will be using. I decided to use...
